WHAT IS POLICY FOR OLDER PEOPLE IN WARWICK DISTRICT (POPWD)?

The Policy for Older People in Warwick District (POPWD) is a multi agency group involving older people and agencies working with or on behalf of older people. POPWD are not direct service providers. We are an umbrella organisation that aims to bring agencies that provide a service for the public together, to work in partnership with one another, to network and to ensure inclusion. This is done through sharing knowledge and information about changes and new developments in services for older people.

THE FOUNDATIONS OF POPWD

“Supporting and Promoting Independence For Older People”
In 1998 Warwick District was one of 28 local authority areas selected to participate in the innovative two-year programme ‘Better Government for Older People’ which aimed to improve services for people over the age of 50 by better meeting their needs, listening to their views and encouraging and recognising their contribution to society.

On conclusion of the programme Warwick District Council committed to continuing this work and the Policy for Older People Group – an independent partnership of key agencies, both statutory and voluntary was established in January 2002 in order to proceed with the development of a cohesive and strategic approach to services for all older people.
